Doane Athletic Honors Announced for 2024-25

Doane Athletics held the annual Athletics Awards Ceremony on May 7, honoring this year's student-athletes. Throughout the evening, each team was recognized for their in-sport accomplishments with the team most valuable performer (MVP) announced as well as their academic accomplishments. The evening concluded with the announcement of six annual awards: the Men's and Women's Athletes of the Year, the Junior Scholar-Athlete, the Senior Scholar-Athlete, and the Men's and Women's Champion of Character.

This year's Men's Athlete of the Year was Zach Turner of the track and field team. Turner was already having a historic season at the time of the awards ceremony only to conclude the year as a three-event national champion. He won the indoor 60m hurdles and the outdoor 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles. He concluded his Tiger career with a long list of accolades and records.

The Sharon Wilch Women's Athlete of the Year was Cristelle Rodriguez of the wrestling team. Rodriguez won the NAIA National Championship at 124-lbs this year and was named the NAIA Women's Wrestler of the Year for the second straight season. Additionally, she was the U20 World Champion, the U23 US Champion, and the U.S. Open Champion.

The Bill Bayer Memorial Scholarship Junior Scholar-Athlete was Tanner Simdorn of the football team. He is an exercise science major.

Receiving the Philip Stuart Becker Senior Scholar-Athlete award was Grace Dowding, a member of the soccer and softball teams. She graduated with a degree in environmental science.

The Doane Athletics Champions of Character honor for the men went to Sam Kwapnioski of the baseball team. The women's honor went to Emma Jenkins of the soccer team.
