Baseball Scores 10 Unanswered Run in Victory

Doane Baseball overcame a seven run deficit on Sunday as they scored 10 unanswered runs to post a 13-10 win at Kansas Wesleyan. The win is the first of the season for the Tigers as they sit at 1-2 overall while KWU is 6-5.

The first inning saw the Tigers jump out to a 3-0 lead as Justin Nevells had an RBI-single and Luke LaChance drove in two runs with a double. The Coyotes came back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game with three runs and then took the lead in the second inning with seven runs.

Doane chipped into the lead in the third inning on a Jack Tillman three-run home run to pull within four runs, 10-6.

In the sixth inning, Lukas White tied the game with one swing of the bat as he hit a grand slam home run.

Doane took the lead back in the seventh inning on a Tillman RBI-single and added a run when Joe Osborn was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. In the ninth inning, the Tigers picked up an insurance run on an RBI-single by Jason Pridy.

Kellan Voggesser had the start for Doane, allowing eight runs (seven earned) in 1.2 innings with one strikeout. Kaden Crawford made his Tiger debut out of the bullpen and delivered 7.1 innings, allowing two unearned runs, and striking out five to pick up the win.

Doane finished the game with 15 hits, five off the bat of Nevells. Tillman added three hits and Brett Meyer finished with two. White and Tillman drove in four runs apiece while Nevells scored three times. Nate Mensik and Meyer each crossed the plate twice.

The Tigers will head to Oklahoma City for three games on February 17-18. The Tigers will face MidAmerica Nazarene in the opener followed by two games with Oklahoma City.
