Baseball Shuts Out No. 12 Pioneers in OKC

Doane Baseball was able to return to the field on Saturday as they traveled to Oklahoma City and took on No. 12 MidAmerica Nazarene. The Tigers limited the Pioneers to a pair of hits as they posted a shutout, 6-0. It was Doane's first shutout of a ranked opponent since 1991.

The visiting team on the scoreboard, the Tigers scored twice in the top of the first inning. Justin Nevells drove in the first run with an RBI-groundout. A balk brought in the second run of the inning.

Doane added to their lead in the fifth inning with two more runs. Jason Pridy hit a sacrifice fly and Lukas White singled to drive in runs. In the seventh inning, the Tigers scored their final two runs. Joe Osborn had an RBI-double and White plated a run on a ground out.

Brett Meyer led the Tigers with two hits and scored a run. Pridy scored twice and drove in one run. White had two RBIs in the game. Doane finished with seven hits in the game.

While the offense was providing the runs, Aaron Forrest was shutting down the Pioneer bats. He held MidAmerica Nazarene hitless through five innings as the team built a 4-0 lead. It wasn't until two outs in the sixth inning that MNU picked up their first hit.

Forrest finished the game going 6.0 innings, allowing one hit and striking out seven on 89 pitches. Kyler Beekman threw 1.0 inning, allowing one hit in the seventh inning.

Doane will take on No. 11 Oklahoma City on Sunday, February 19, at 11 AM. The two teams will play a pair of seven-inning contests.
