Baseball Splits with No. 11 Stars Behind Moon Shots

Doane Baseball powered their way to a doubleheader split with No. 11 Oklahoma City on Sunday. The Tigers won the opener, 10-7, before dropping game two, 4-1.

In the opener, Jason Pridy led off the game with a home run to put the Tigers in front. Later in the inning, Justin Nevells connected on a two-run home run to give the team a 3-0 lead. Oklahoma City came back in the bottom of the first inning with three runs on a bases-clearing double.

Jack Tillman put Doane back in front with a sacrifice fly in the third inning but the Stars would tie the game in the bottom of the inning on an RBI-single.

Pridy put the Tigers back in front with a RBI-double in the fourth inning. Joe Osborn followed with a two-run home run for a 7-4 lead. In the fifth inning, Osborn had an RBI-single and came around to score on a double by Lukas White.

Oklahoma City plated a run in the sixth inning on an RBI-single. Doane scored their final run in the seventh inning as Brett Meyer scored on a throwing error following a failed pickoff attempt at third base. In the bottom of the inning, OCU hit a two-run home run to cap the scoring.

Doane finished with 12 hits, including seven extra base hits, in the game with four players having two apiece. Pridy was 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. Osborn was 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs. Nevells went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. Meyer was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Kellan Voggesser started and went 3.0 innings, allowing four runs on four hits with three strikeouts. Zach Schuchart picked up the win in relief, throwing 2.0 innings and striking out one. Tye Faulker allowed one run on two hits in three batters faced while Kyler Beekman closed out the game by recording the final six outs. He allowed two runs in 2.0 innings with four strikeouts.

 

Oklahoma City struck first in game two with a run in the bottom of the second inning. A wild pitch allowed the run to score.

Doane tied the game in the fifth inning on a solo home run by Nate Mensik. In the sixth, OCU regained the lead on a two-out, three-run home run.

The Tigers were limited to six hits in the second game from six different players. Mensik had the only extra base hit in the game.

Kaden Crawford took the loss as he allowed four runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings with five strikeouts. Jake Johnson allowed two walks and Jake King picked up the final out for the pitching staff.

 

Doane will compete in Kansas City on February 25-26 in the Rube Foster Classic. The Tigers will take on No. 12 MidAmerica Nazarene at 1 PM on February 25 followed by a 3:30 PM game with William Penn.
