Beekman Named GPAC Pitcher of the Week
Doane Baseball pitcher Kyler Beekman has been named the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Pitcher of the Week after his performance this past weekend at the Rube Foster Classic in Kansas City.
Beekman, a two-time all-conference selection, earned his first GPAC Pitcher of the Week honor following a weekend in which he faced No. 12 MidAmerica Nazarene and Columbia in relief outings. In the Tigers' 3-1 win over MNU, Beekman picked up the save with 2.0 innings of work.
Against the Cougars, he picked up the win as he worked 1.2 innings. He entered the game with two runners on base in a 1-1 tie but shut down his opponent's bats. Doane picked up a run shortly after Beekman got the Tigers out of the jam to put him in position for the win as he closed the door on Columbia in the final inning. Columbia is receiving votes in the NAIA national poll and dropped to 12-2 on the season following the game.
He finished the weekend with 3.2 shutout innings, striking out two batters and allowing one hit and no walks.
Doane will travel to Parkville, Mo., this weekend to take on Park University on March 4-5. The Pirates are 6-3 on the season while Doane is 7-3.
