Baseball Completes Four-Game Sweep of Jamestown
Doane Baseball capped off their four-game series with Jamestown with a pair of wins on Saturday in Orange City, Iowa. The Tigers completed the four-game sweep of the Jimmies with a 12-2 win in the first game and an 11-6 win in the finale.
Jamestown took the lead in the second inning of game one but the Tigers did not trail for long. In the top of the third inning, Joe Osborn delivered a two-run home run to put the Tigers up, 2-1.
With Doane leading 3-2 in the fifth inning, Osborn hit his second home run of the game, another two-run blast. It started a six-run inning for the Tigers as they moved in front, 9-2.
Osborn wasn't done as he stepped to the plate in the sixth inning and smacked his third home run of the game, delivering his third two-run home run of the game. Lukas White followed with a home run to cap the scoring.
Kaden Crawford picked up the victory for the Tigers, going 6.0 innings in the opener. He improved to 5-3 on the season as he allowed two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out four. Matthew Morben threw the final inning, allowing a hit and a walk.
Osborn finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs scored and six driven in. Logan Amick added a 3-for-4 effort with two runs scored.
Doane jumped out early in game two as Nate Mensik hit a two-run home run. Jamestown came back with three runs over the next two innings to take a 3-2 lead.
The Tigers tied the game in the fourth inning on a Luke LaChance RBI-single. Logan Amick put Doane back in front with a two-run single. A wild pitch gave the Tigers a 6-3 lead.
In the sixth inning, Doane added two runs on RBI-singles by White and Mensik. In the eighth inning, White hit a solo home run. The Tigers' final two runs came in the ninth inning on a two-run single by Misael Cantu.
Doane collected 16 hits in the game. White was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two driven in. LaChance was 3-for-5 with a RBI. Four players added two hits apiece, Amick, Mensik, Justin Nevells, and Brett Meyer. Joining White with two runs scored in the game were Nevells, Meyer, and Tanner Black.
Haldon Craig started for Doane and went 1.2 innings as he allowed three runs on three hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Jake Johnson threw 2.1 innings, allowing one run on one hit and one walk with one strikeout. Kellan Voggesser picked up the win in relief to move to 1-0 on the season. He threw 3.0 innings and allowed one run on two hits and a walk while striking out four. Kyler Beekman threw the final 2.0 innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three.
Doane will return home for a six-game stretch starting on Saturday, April 15. The Tigers will host Concordia at 12 PM in Crete.
