Baseball Concludes Historic Season in Extra Innings

Doane Baseball saw their season come to a close on Wednesday afternoon in an 11-inning battle with Oklahoma City, 8-6. The historic season for the Tigers came to a close at 43-12.

The Stars scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning on a two-out single. In the bottom of the inning, Doane answered with a run scoring on a fielder's choice as Joe Osborn slid in at home safely as the tag attempt was high.

The Tigers took the lead in the second inning on a Lukas White RBI-single to score Tanner Black. In the third inning, a passed ball with the bases loaded allowed Cristian Yanez to score.

OCU regained the lead in the fifth inning with a three-run home run followed by a solo home run for a 5-3 lead. Oklahoma City added a single following the two home runs only to have the base runner thrown out trying to steal by Ben Grigsby. It was the second caught stealing of the game for the Tiger catcher. The Stars added a run in the eighth to go ahead, 6-3.

In the bottom of the eighth, Doane put together a one-out rally. Brett Meyer tripled to drive in Black and Justin Nevells. Osborn followed with an RBI-single to plate Meyer and tie the game at 6-all.

In the 11th inning, OCU picked up a two-run home run to regain the lead. Doane was able to get the tying runs into scoring position in the bottom of the inning before the game came to an end.

Kaden Crawford started for Doane and allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks over 4.0-plus innings. He struck out four batters. Jake Johnson ended up taking the loss as he went 6.0-plus innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out five. Kyler Beekman picked up 1.0 inning of scoreless relief.

Doane finished the game with 11 hits and drew seven walks but would strand 15 runners on base. Four players had two hits apiece in the game. Osborn was 2-for-4 with a run and a RBI. White was 2-for-6 with a RBI. Narumi Okayasu was 2-for-5 in the game and Nevells was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
