Forrest Receives Honorable Mention All-American Recognition
Doane Baseball right-handed pitcher Aaron Forrest has been named to the honorable mention list for NAIA All-American honors this year. His recognition gives the Tigers back-to-back years with a mention to the list, marking the first time since the 2014-2015 seasons that Doane has had honorees in consecutive years.
Forrest, the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Pitcher of the Year, led the team with a 10-3 overall record, breaking the school mark for wins in a season. In 88.0 innings pitched, he allowed 66 hits and 29 walks while striking out 86 batters, posting an 8.80 strikeouts per nine innings average. He threw four complete games and posted a 2.66 earned run average (ERA).
During the season, he became the fourth player to eclipse 200 career strikeouts at Doane. Currently at 225 strikeouts, he will enter his senior season in 2024 needing 14 strikeouts to pass Elliott Engle, his pitching coach, for the top spot on the career chart. With 17 career wins, he needs seven to tie Engle and Nathan Roth for the record in wins (24). Forrest has a career ERA of 3.89, currently 10th-best in program history.
Forrest is the fourth pitcher in program history to receive honorable mention recognition and the third starter, joining Engle (2014) and Chance Brull (2011). He is currently pitching in the Northwoods League, a collegiate summer baseball organization, for the Traverse City Pit Spitters (Mich.) where he is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in eight innings.
