Baseball Snags Second Win from Columbia on Weekend
Baseball returned to the diamond on Saturday to take on (RV) Columbia in the first game of the day in Missouri. Doane fell behind early but quickly recovered and posted a 4-2 win over the Cougars.
Columbia plated two runs in the bottom of the second inning with a pair of two-out singles. The Tigers came back in the third inning with two runs to tie the game. Joe Osborn doubled with two outs to bring in Luke LaChance and Logan Amick.
Doane took the lead in the fourth inning on a two-out single by LaChance to plate Aaron Vulcano. In the sixth inning, Vulcano doubled to plate Narumi Okayasu after he led off the inning with a walk.
Kaden Crawford (1-0) started for the Tigers and threw the first complete game of the season for the pitching staff. In 7.0 innings of work, he scattered six hits and a walk while striking out three. Columbia had a pair of two-out hits in the first inning and had three hits in the second inning. The Cougars had one base runner in the third on an error but a double play would limit Crawford to facing the minimum in the inning. A single in the fourth and a walk in the fifth were the only other base runners for Columbia as Crawford sent the Cougars down in order in the last two innings.
Doane out-hit their opponent for the first time this season as they collected eight hits in the game. Okayasu, Vulcano, and LaChance had two hits apiece including a double each. The Tigers had four doubles in the game with the addition of Osborn's RBI-double in the third inning.
In the second game of the day, Doane will take on Culver-Stockton for the second time this weekend as they look for the four-game Missouri sweep.
