William Penn (IA)
Baseball opened the Wildcat Classic with a tough outing as they dropped a 9-1 decision to William Penn (Iowa). The Tigers bounced back from their first loss of the season to defeat Dakota State (S.D.), 3-1.
William Penn scored in four of the seven innings as they out-hit the Tigers, 11-5. Doane had five different players collect a hit in the game with Logan Amick having the lone extra base hit, a double in the third inning.
Kaden Crawford took the loss, allowing seven runs, six earned, on seven hits while striking out two. Kellan Voggesser threw 3.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out three.
Against Dakota State, the Tigers jumped out early with a run in the first and one in the third. An error allowed the first run of the game to score for the Tigers and an RBI-groundout by Luke LaChance gave Doane a 2-0 lead.
Dakota State picked up their run in the fifth inning. Doane added an insurance run in the seventh inning on an RBI-double by Noah Winkelman.
Aaron Forrest threw a complete game for the Tigers, allowing one run on five hits over 7.0 innings. He walked one batter and struck out nine.
Joe Osborn led Doane with three hits and scored a run. Amick reached twice on a walk and scored two runs. The Tigers had seven hits in the game.
