Baseball Opens GPAC Tournament with 2-1 Win

After a two and a half hour delay to start the GPAC Baseball Tournament due to overnight thunderstorms, the Tiger Baseball team had the field prepped and ready to go for two games on Thursday afternoon. It was a pitcher's day at the park as the four starting pitchers in the two games threw complete games in a pair of one-run battles.

In the first game of the day, 6-seed Northwestern upset 3-seed Morningside, 2-1. In the second game, 2-seed Doane posted a 2-1 win over 7-seed Jamestown.

In the Tigers game, the long ball was the difference between the two teams. In the third inning, Joe Osborn hit a two-out, two-run home run for a 2-0 lead. The Jimmies lone run came on a leadoff home run in the top of the seventh inning by Jordan Singleton.

Aaron Forrest started on the hill for the Tigers and went 7.0 innings, allowing one run on six hits while striking out seven. He tied his single-season record with his 10th win over the year (10-0) and set a personal best in strikeouts for a season as he now has 87.

Osborn's home run was his 12th of the season and 57 of his career. He was 2-for-3 in the game. Aaron Vulcano was 2-for-2 with an intentional walk as the Tigers were held to five hits in the game by Jamestown's Cade Torgerson.

Doane will play in the first game of the day on Friday when they take on Northwestern at 9 AM. Jamestown will face Morningside at 12 PM.
