Baseball Returns to Field with 5-1 Win Over MVC

Baseball was able to return to the field on Sunday afternoon after several weeks off due to weather conditions. The Tigers met Missouri Valley in McPherson, Kansas, for a pair of games.

In the first game of the day, Doane won 5-1 as they used a mix of small ball and big hits. The addition of a strong start on the mound enabled the Tigers to build their lead throughout the game.

In the third inning, the Tigers manufactured their first two runs. Johnny Vulcano led off with a single and moved to third on a bunt single by Gerald Nix as an error put runners at second and third base. Logan Amick and Max Harris both followed with sacrifice flies to put Doane up 2-0. Amick gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning with a two-out double to plate Carter Roth.

The Vikings picked up their lone run in the fifth inning following a one-out triple and an RBI-groundout. Doane finished the scoring with two runs in the sixth inning on a Vulcano two-run home run.

Kaden Crawford threw 6.0 innings in picking up his second win of the season. He allowed one run on four hits and three walks while striking out eight. Raidyn Steele threw the final inning, allowing one hit and one walk.

Doane had eight hits in the game with Amick, Roth, and Vulcano picking up two hits apiece. Roth and Vulcano scored two runs apiece while Amick and Vulcano both had two RBI.

Game two followed 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
