Baseball Collects First Shutout Win of Season
Baseball closed out their four-game series with Missouri Valley on Monday afternoon in McPherson, Kansas, by taking the final game, 7-0. The sweep of the Vikings moved Doane to 7-1 on the season.
Doane's first run of the game came in the first inning as Brayden Jones singled to plate Carter Roth. In the third inning, Roth scored on a sacrifice fly by Max Harris to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. In the fourth inning, Richard Reding singled to drive in Logan Amick.
The Tigers added four runs in the fifth inning to close out the victory. Taiyo Takahashi singled to plate Johnny Vulcano for a 4-0 lead. Later in the inning, Amick hit a three-run home run to drive in Carson Baker and Gage Ryba for the final tallies.
Riley Plummer started for the Tigers and went 6.0 innings to pick up his first career win. He allowed three hits and three walks while striking out two batters on 100 pitches. Carter Baete threw the final 1.0 inning, allowing a hit and two walks in his scoreless frame.
Doane finished the game with 11 hits. Four players had two-hit games, led by Amick who was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three driven in. Roth added two hits and two runs scored while Reding and Takahashi added two hits and an RBI apiece.
Next up for the Tigers is their first scheduled home appearance of the season. Clarke (IA) will come to Crete for a four-game set on March 1-2 with both days scheduled to begin at 12 PM (noon).
