Clarke Spoils Home Opener for Baseball
Baseball opened a four-game series on Saturday in Crete as they hosted Clarke (Iowa). The visiting Pride spoiled the home opener for the Tigers by rallying in the seventh inning for a 3-2 win.
The first run of the game for Doane came in the second inning on a safety squeeze bunt by Max Harris that plated Johnny Vulcano. In the third inning, Logan Amick picked up an RBI with a ground out as Carson Baker scored.
Clarke came back with a run in the fifth inning to cut the Doane lead in half. In the seventh inning, a passed ball allowed the Pride to tie the game and an RBI-single put them in front. The Tigers' seventh inning rally started strong as Harris opened the inning with a double.
Kaden Crawford started on the mound for the Tigers and went 6.0-plus innings, allowing two runs on one hit and five walks while striking out five. Nicolas Yard picked up the final three outs, allowing one run on two hits.
The offense had six hits from six different players. Harris and Vulcano had the team's only extra base hits as Vulcano added a triple to Harris' double.
Game two was scheduled 30 minutes after the conclusion of this game.
