Steele Slams Door Closed on Clarke Offense as Baseball Wins

The second game of the baseball doubleheader with Clarke on Saturday got off to a rough start for the Tigers. However, they were able to overcome the initial adversity and posted a 3-1 victory to earn a split on the day's action.

Clarke took an early lead with a run scoring on a groundout in the first inning. Doane starting pitcher Isaiah Miller was unable to start the next inning due to an injury and the Tigers had to quickly turn to the bullpen. Raidyn Steele came in, made a few warm-up tosses and followed with a gem as he held the Pride to a pair of hits over the final six innings.

Doane tied the game in the bottom of the second inning on a Taiyo Takahashi ground out. Aaron Vulcano put the Tigers in front as he followed with a double. In the sixth inning, the Tigers picked up an insurance run as Vulcano delivered a single to plate his brother, Johnny Vulcano.

Miller's final line was 1.0 inning, allowing one run on one hit with one strikeout. Steele faced only 19 batters as he went 6.0 innings, allowing two hits and striking out two.

Aaron Vulcano collected two of the team's seven hits in the game, picking up the only extra base hit. He also had two of the three RBI in the game.

Doane and Clarke will match up again on Sunday, March 2, at 12 PM for the final two games of the series.
