Baseball Completes Sweep Over St. Francis

Baseball closed out their series in Illinois against St. Francis on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers jumped out in the first inning and rolled to an 11-3 win for the sweep over the Saints. Doane improved to 4-0 all-time over the Saints and to 13-2 on the season.

Sam Kwapnioski started the scoring for Doane in the first inning with an RBI-single to drive in Carter Roth. Justin Nevells followed with an RBI-single to drive in Johnny Vulcano. In the third inning, Kwapnioski doubled to drive in Max Harris. Jordan Bond added an RBI-single to give Doane a 4-0 lead. St. Francis scored a run on a home run in the fourth inning.

Both teams scored in the fifth inning. Taiyo Takahashi had an RBI-single to drive in Kwapnioski for Doane while the Saints had an RBI-single in their half of the inning. The Tigers drove in three runs in the sixth inning. Harris doubled to drive in two runs and Kwapnioski singled to plate the third run.

In the seventh inning, Bond led off the inning with a home run. Logan Amick added an RBI-double and Harris delivered an RBI-single. The Saints' final run came on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Broc Songster started for the Tigers and went 6.0 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five. Raidyn Steele threw 1.0 inning, allowing one run on two hits. Nicolas Yard threw a scoreless inning, striking out two batters. Ethan Merk added a scoreless inning, striking out one batter.

The offense had eight extra base hits out of their 16 hits in the game. Kwapnioski went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. Amick had two hits, two runs scored, and one driven in while Roth had two hits and two runs scored. Harris posted two hits, two runs scored, and three RBI. Bond finished with two hits, a run scored, and two driven in.

Doane will return to action on Saturday, March 15, when they travel to Fremont to open GPAC play against Midland. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM.
