Balanced Effort Leads Baseball in Sweep Over Waldorf
Baseball closed out their four-game series on Sunday at Waldorf with an 11-1 win in seven innings, capping off a sweep.
Doane scored first as Johnny Vulcano hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning. In the third inning, Justin Nevells scored on an error in the third inning followed by a Sam Kwapnioski single to score Logan Amick.
In the fifth inning, Nevells scored on another Warrior error. Later in the inning, Kwapnioski hit a two-run home run to give him a home run in each game of the series. Waldorf scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth, leaving the Tigers in front, 6-1.
In the sixth inning, Doane added five runs. Aaron Vulcano led off the inning with a home run. Justin Nevells doubled to drive in a run and Gerald Nix drove in a run with a ground out. Amick followed with an RBI-single and later scored on a fielder's choice for the final run.
Broc Songster started and picked up the win as he went 5.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks while striking out two. Raidyn Steele threw the final 1.2 innings, striking out one batter.
Offensively, the Tigers had 14 hits in the game. Kwapnioski and Nevells had three hits apiece while Amick and Jordan Bond had two apiece. Nevells scored three runs and Kwapnioski drove in three runs.
Next up for Doane will be a non-conference game on Tuesday, April 15, at home against Bellevue at 3 PM.
