Baseball Takes Game One at Northwestern
Baseball traveled to Orange City, Iowa, to open a four-game series with Northwestern on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in game one and posted a 10-2 victory over the Red Raiders.
In the first inning, Aaron Vulcano delivered the initial blow by hitting a three-run home run with two outs in the inning. Vulcano scored the Tigers' fourth run of the game in the third inning on a Brayden Jones sacrifice fly. In the fourth inning, Sam Kwapnioski doubled to drive in Logan Amick and Jordan Bond singled to plate Kwapnioski for a 6-0 lead. Taiyo Takahashi capped the inning with a two-run double to put the Tigers up by eight runs.
Northwestern scored their two runs in the fifth inning on a two-run home run. Doane added two runs in the seventh to close out the scoring. Amick had a sacrifice fly to drive in Takahashi for the first run and Justin Nevells scored on a wild pitch for the final run.
Kaden Crawford started on the mound for the Tigers and threw a complete game. Over 7.0 innings, he allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out seven.
Offensively, the Tigers had 14 hits as Takahashi went 4-for-4 with a run scored and two driven in. Amick was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one driven in. Vulcano went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI. Jones was 2-for-2 with an RBI.
