Baseball Drops Series Finale at Northwestern
Baseball played the final game of their series at Northwestern on Monday afternoon, dropping the contest, 7-3. The Tigers took three out of four games and will head into the final series of the season tied for second place in the GPAC.
Doane took an early lead on a solo home run by Sam Kwapnioski in the first inning. Northwestern tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch. The Tigers regained the lead in the second inning on a home run by Taiyo Takahashi. In the third inning, Kwapnioski homered for the second time in the game to put the Tigers up 3-1.
Northwestern tied the game on a two-out double in the fourth inning and took the lead on a two-run home run. They added two runs on a home run in the fifth inning for the final runs.
Broc Songster started for the Tigers and went 3.2 innings, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six. Raidyn Steele threw 0.1 inning, allowing three runs on two hits and a hit batter. Ethan Merk threw 2.0 innings, allowing one hit and striking out one.
The Tigers were limited to four hits in the game, three coming from solo home runs. Kwapnioski was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two driven in.
Doane will close out the season on April 25-26 at home as they host Hastings. First pitch on both days is scheduled for 1 PM.
