Plummer Shuts Out Broncos As Baseball Takes Game Two
Baseball used a complete-game pitching performance and a furry of runs in the third inning to post a 4-0 win over Hastings in the second game of the doubleheader on Friday afternoon. The two teams split the first day of their weekend series.
The Doane defense provided some momentum early on as Aaron Vulcano threw a runner out at third base from right field in the second inning and Taiyo Takahashi threw a batter out at second trying to stretch a single into a double down the left field line in the third inning. In the bottom of the third inning, the Tigers strung together four hits with two outs and pushed three runs across the plate.
Sam Kwapnioski singled and scored from first base on a double by Johnny Vulcano. Vulcano scored on a double by Jordan Bond. Bond scored the third run on a single by Aaron Vulcano. In the fourth inning, Gerald Nix laid down a squeeze bunt to plate Takahashi for the team's final run.
Riley Plummer picked up his first complete game as he went 9.0 innings, scattering seven hits and walking three. He had four strikeouts while throwing 115 pitches in the game.
The Tigers posted 10 hits in the game. Logan Amick was 2-for-4 while Johnny Vulcano was 2-for-4 with a run scored and one driven in. Aaron Vulcano was 2-for-3 with a RBI.

Doane and Hastings will wrap up the regular season on Saturday in Crete with first pitch of the doubleheader starting at 1 PM.
