Baseball Shuts Out Broncos to Open Final Day of Regular Season

Baseball closed out the regular season on Saturday at home with a doubleheader against Hastings. The Tigers posted their second straight shutout of the Broncos with a 10-0 win in the opening game after closing Friday's action with a shutout.

Doane scored in five of the six innings they batted in. In the first inning, Johnny Vulcano tripled to drive in Sam Kwapnioski and Logan Amick. He came in to score on a ground out by Jordan Bond. Later in the inning, Justin Nevells singled to drive in Brayden Jones for a 4-0 lead.

In the second inning, an error allowed Kwapnioski to score. Gerald Nix picked up an RBI-single in the third inning to drive in Taiyo Takahashi. Doane was held scoreless in the fourth inning.

Dane Kelsey delivered a pinch hit RBI-single in the fifth inning to drive in Gage Ryba. In the sixth inning, Max Harris had an RBI-single to plate Richard Reding. Cristian Yanez added an RBI-single to plate Harris and Amick singled to drive in Yanez for the final run.

Nicolas Yard threw 6.0 innings, allowing five hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Kaizer Papenhagen threw the final inning, striking out one batter.

Doane had 16 hits in the game, led by Kwapnioski going 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Amick was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Aaron Vulcano was 2-for-4 and Nix was 2-for-3. Nine different players scored runs and eight players accounted for the team's runs batted in.
