Football Makes Statement Heading into Playoffs

If the Doane football team needed to make one final statement heading into the NAIA Playoffs, they did just that on Saturday in a 62-0 win over Briar Cliff. The Tigers moved to 9-1 to close out the regular season.

Game Highlights

  • Doane scored touchdowns on nine of their 13 possessions in the game.
  • After a slow start on their first possession which resulted in a missed field goal, the Tigers scored on four consecutive drives.
  • Jack Shadley (JR/Columbus, Neb.) connected with Hunter Bradley (FR/Crete, Neb.) on the first scoring drives, hitting on passes of 31 and 41 yards for touchdowns. Bradley finished with four receptions for 108 yards.
  • Najee Mustafaa (SO/Cedar Hill, Texas) scored the first touchdown on the ground to open the 2nd quarter.
  • Shadley hit Mitch Marvin (SR/Crete, Neb.) for a 10-yard score and Jacob Bellar for a 29-yard touchdown to go up 34-0 at halftime. Shadley had four touchdown passes on the day on 16-of-19 passing.
  • Nate Meier (SR/Pierce, Neb.)'s first touchdown of the game came via the pass, his own to linebacker Colten Mach (SR/Crete, Neb.) for a three-yard score.
  • Meier had one rushing touchdown as he ran for 156 yards on the day. Jackson Love (SO/Norfolk, Neb.) added 57 yards and one touchdown.
  • Doane rushed for 272 yards and threw for 272 yards in the game.
  • The defense held Briar Cliff to nine yards rushing and 59 yards in total offense.
  • The Tigers had seven sacks and 12 tackles for loss which resulted in negative-80 yards.
  • Jordan Pelletier (SR/San Antonio, Texas) led the team with six tackles, including 3.5 sacks. Colten Mach added five tackles in the game.
  • Seth Majerus (SO/Seward, Neb.) was in on three tackles, including two sacks for 22 yards lost.
