Slow Start Dooms Football on the Road

Doane Football was unable to go on the road and pick up their second straight win as they were tripped up by Jamestown on Saturday afternoon in North Dakota, 41-17. The Jimmies scored all of their points before Doane was able to get on the board in the fourth quarter.

Jamestown scored on five of seven drives in the first half, including three touchdown drives in the opening quarter to take a 21-0 lead. Quarterback Cade Torgerson connected on passes of 13, 62, and 24-yards for touchdowns. He added a fourth touchdown pass late in the second quarter, connecting on a 25-yard completion with 11 seconds left before the break to give the Jimmies a 31-0 lead at the half.

Aanon Peterson converted two field goals for Jamestown, hitting from 29 yards in the second quarter and 21 yards in the third quarter. The final Jimmie touchdown came early in the fourth quarter on a Parker Hager interception returned 34 yards for a touchdown.

Doane scored on their final three possessions of the game. Mike Pulliam scored on a seven yard run to cap a 62-yard drive. Cade Wiseman (SO/Sutton, Neb.) set up the next Tiger score with a 30-yard punt return. Kelen Meyer (FR/Ord, Neb.) knocked in a 42-yard field goal with 4:17 left in the game. Pulliam completed two passes over 20 yards on the final drive with Adam Wasserman (SR/Fairbury, Neb.) scoring on a three-yard run with one second left in the game.

The Tigers finished with 211 yards of total offense. Pulliam completed seven passes for 86 yards and Karsen Reimers (SO/St. Paul, Neb.) completed six passes for 37 yards. Chandler Cooper (SR/Rockmart, Ga.) posted 45 yards on three receptions with Jayboc Garcia (SR/Yakima, Wash.) adding 43 yards on three receptions.

Donte Wiggins III (SR/Colorago Springs, Colo.) led the rushing game with 45 yards on 10 carries. Pulliam added 21 yards on three rushing attempts.

Meyer converted all three offensive kicks, a field goal and two extra points, while also punting six times for an average of 43.7 yards and four punts inside the Jimmies 20-yard line.

Defensively, Jarett Boggs (FR/Fremont, Neb.) led the way with 10 tackles. Ty Barbazon (SR/Ocala, Fla.) added eight tackles and Owen Kuntz (JR/Crete, Neb.) finished with five. Ryan Michael (SR/Brea, Calif.) was in on four tackles and picked up the Tigers' only forced turnover as he had an interception in the third quarter.

Doane will return home on October 8 and will play host to Dakota Wesleyan on Homecoming Saturday. An eventful week is planned as Doane continues to celebrate the 150th year.
