Football Falls to No. 4 Northwestern

Doane Football hosted No. 4 Northwestern on Saturday in Crete, with the Red Raiders posting a 59-10 victory over the Tigers. Northwestern moved to 6-1 on the season with the Tigers falling to 3-4.

Northwestern scored on a pair of touchdown runs in the first quarter to take a 14-0 lead. Doane was able to get on the board in the second quarter as Kelen Meyer (FR/Ord, Neb.) knocked in a 22-yard field goal at the 14:22 mark. The Red Raiders followed with three more touchdown runs to go ahead 35-3. Doane scored their lone touchdown with 1:26 to play in the quarter as Cruz Kirwan (FR/San Antonio, Texas) found Colby Frazier (FR/New Caney, Texas) for a 16-yard touchdown.

In the third quarter, Northwestern struck twice late with a pair of touchdown passes. They added a touchdown run early in the fourth quarter and a field goal with 17 seconds left to play.

Doane finished the game with 177 yards of total offense. They finished with two yards on the ground as an errant snap on a punt attempt cost the Tigers 40 yards early in the game. Adam Wasserman (SR/Fairbury, Neb.) finished with 57 yards rushing for the Tigers. Cruz Kirwan threw for 175 yards and a touchdown. Jeremiah Payne (JR/Dallas, Texas) finished with five receptions for 47 yards and Frazier added four receptions for 47 yards.

Defensively, Doane was led by Marcus Randazzo (JR/Fort Collins, Colo.) with six total tackles. Cade Wiseman (SO/Sutton, Neb.) was in on five tackles. Ty Barbazon (SR/Ocala, Fla.) and Caden Geiken (SR/Gothenburg, Neb.) each recorded a sack for the Tigers. Doane posted five pass breakups in the game, two coming from Cedric Gooch Jr. (SR/Wylie, Texas)

Doane will travel to Yankton, S.D., to take on Mount Marty at 1 PM on Saturday, October 29.
