Football Drops Homecoming Game
Football hosted Concordia on Saturday afternoon in Crete for the annual Homecoming game. The Bulldogs, receiving votes in the NAIA poll, were able to pull away in the third quarter with 21 points as they picked up a 45-10 win.
A couple of untimely penalties stifled the Tiger offense in the game, with three erasing plays that would have resulted in first downs. Doane would finish the game with 344 yards of total offense.
Doane's two scores in the game came in the fourth quarter. On the first play of the quarter, Sam Hartman connected with Zack Perez for a 51-yard touchdown. Kelen Meyer added a 52-yard field goal with 1:01 to play in the game.
Hartman threw for a career-high 325 yards on 30 completions. He connected with Perez four times for 97 yards and a touchdown. Andrew Waido had a team-high seven receptions for 83 yards. Both receivers also notched career-highs in receiving yards. James Miles III led the ground game with 20 yards on 10 carries.
Defensively, Tanner Simdorn posted a career-high 14 tackles, including six solo. Zac Sundquist had a career-high 13 tackles with four solo. Jarett Boggs posted 12 tackles, with 2.5 tackles for loss including the team's lone sack in the game. Lucas Christiansen was in on 11 tackles. Andrew Brown recorded a pair of interceptions in the game as Doane finished the game plus-one in turnover margin. Concordia ran 90 plays on offense for the game, finishing with 670 yards.
Doane will travel to Hastings next weekend for a 1 PM kickoff on October 26 against the Broncos.
