Meyer Tabbed First Team All-American by Associated Press
The Associated Press (AP) announced the 2024 NAIA All-American list on Friday. Doane punter Kelen Meyer was selected First Team All-American for his efforts during the past season. Last week, Meyer received Second Team honors from the NAIA and American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).
Based on information available in the Doane Athletics archives, Meyer is the second player to earn First Team honors from the AP, joining Fred Davis in 1966. Cole Wiseman was the last Tiger to earn All-American honors from the AP, receiving Second Team honors in 2017.
During the 2024 season, Meyer had 69 punts for 3,055 yards, an average of 44.3 yards per punt - third best in the NAIA. He led the NAIA in punts placed inside the 20-yard line with 28. Meyer broke the school record for punting average in a season, topping the mark he set in 2022 of 42.3. He holds three of the top four marks in program history for a single season with his average of 41.6 in 2023 sitting fourth.
For his career, has 205 punts for an average of 42.5 yards per punt. His longest punt is 86 yards, a school record he set in 2022 at Hastings. His 73 punts placed inside the 20-yard line accounts for nearly 36-percent of his punt attempts.
Meyer also served as the team's field goal kicker and he made eight field goals this year. He has 35 career field goals, second-most on the Doane record books.
