No. 19 Dordt Uses Balance to Down Football

CRETE, Neb. – Doane's defense battled throughout the evening, but Dordt's balanced rushing attack carried the Defenders to a 41-0 victory Saturday night at Memorial Stadium/Papik Field.

The Tigers (0-2, 0-2 GPAC) held Dordt in check for stretches, forcing long, sustained drives and limiting the Defenders' passing game to just 153 yards. Linebacker Reece Zutavern anchored the effort with a team-high 12 tackles, while Andrew Brown and Liban Farah each added nine stops. Doane forced Dordt into multiple third-and-long situations, but the visitors were able to convert at key moments, finishing 12-for-15 on third downs.

Doane's offense showed flashes through the air as quarterback Noah Booras connected on 13 passes for 163 yards. John DeRiso paced the receiving corps with five catches for 61 yards, including a 26-yard grab that moved the Tigers deep into Dordt territory. Mark Anderson hauled in two passes for 45 yards, highlighted by a 30-yard strike in the second quarter. Andrew Waido also provided consistency with three receptions for 43 yards.

The Tigers' most promising scoring opportunity came midway through the second quarter, when a 14-play drive reached the Dordt 15-yard line before ending on a fumble. Later, Doane again pushed inside the Dordt 35 in the fourth quarter, but the Defenders' defense came up with a blocked field goal attempt.

Special teams delivered a spark, as Andrew Brown returned three kickoffs for 82 yards, including a 53-yarder that set up the Tigers with strong field position.

Dordt (2-0, 2-0 GPAC) leaned heavily on its running game, amassing 326 yards on the ground. Daniel Dickerson scored twice, while teammates Connor Dodd, Keenan Valverde, and Thomas Fritz each added rushing touchdowns. Kicker Stephen Leinen chipped in with field goals of 49 and 51 yards.

While the final margin favored Dordt, the Tigers' defensive intensity and offensive flashes highlighted positives Doane can carry forward. With two challenging GPAC opponents already behind them, the Tigers will look to build on Saturday's effort as they continue their 2025 campaign.

Final Score: Dordt 41, Doane 0
