Men's Basketball Slams Door on First GPAC Win

Men's Basketball pulled away in the second half to post an 81-57 victory over Mount Marty on Tuesday evening in Crete. The win was the first of the season for the Tigers in conference play as they improved to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the GPAC.

The Lancers struck early and often, scoring the first six points of the game to build a 16-9 advantage through six minutes of action. Doane bounced back with an 8-0 run to take their first lead of the game with 10:54 to play in the opening half. Mount Marty quickly regained their lead back on the next possession, however, Doane strung together a 7-0 run to go up 24-18. The Tigers closed the opening half with an 11-1 run as they led 46-34 at the break.

Doane scored eight of the first 10 points of the second half to extend their lead to 18 points. Mount Marty countered with a 5-0 run over 93 seconds of play only to have the Tigers go on a 15-0 run at the midway point of the half. Doane led 69-41 with 10 minutes to play following back-to-back steals and layups by Brady Timm. Timm scored 12 of the 15 points in the run.

Timm led all scorers with 28 points, hitting 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. He added a team-high with five assists and with five steals. River Johnston posted 13 points and Nick Saiz added 11 for Doane. Cooper Sheldon recorded a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Tigers will return to the hardwood on November 29 when they travel to Hastings for a 7:45 PM contest.
