Men's Basketball Downed at Home by Midland
Men's Basketball was unable to hold off a pair of big runs by Midland as the Warriors came to Crete on Wednesday evening to take an 86-56 win over the Tigers. The midway point of each half saw the Warriors utilize a 10-0 run to allow them to pull away for the victory.
The opening three minutes of the game saw the two teams feeling each other out with four lead changes. Midland took an 8-7 lead at the 17:02 mark and the two point basket would start a 6-0 run with all the points scored by Jake Orr. Doane countered with a 7-0 run to regain the lead, 14-12 with 13:50 on the clock, as three different players scored for the Tigers.
The Warriors would hold Doane to one basket over the next 7:43 of game time. Midland went on a 10-0 run and a 9-0 run to bookend a Tiger bucket as the Warriors went in front, 31-16. Midland led at the half, 43-28.
In the second half, Midland scored the first eight points before Doane broke through on back-to-back baskets from Jack Wilson. Doane trimmed the Warrior lead back to 17 points, 57-40, with 12:56 to play behind a 7-0 run. Midland countered with a 10-0 over the next 2:39 of play to secure the outcome.
Carter Ruse made his first start for the Tigers and posted a team-high 13 points of 5-of-8 shooting, going 3-of-6 from 3-point range. Wilson was joined by Brady Timm with 10 points apiece. Timm led the Tigers with six rebounds while River Johnston posted four assists and two steals.
Doane will go on the road to close out conference play for the 2023 slate of the schedule as they take on Northwestern in Orange City, Iowa, on December 9. Tipoff is set for 6:45 PM.
