No. 7 Northwestern Pulls Away from Men's Basketball in 2nd Half

Men's Basketball traveled to No. 7 Northwestern on Saturday afternoon in Orange City, Iowa, for a conference meeting. The Red Raiders pulled away in the second half and posted an 88-64 win over the Tigers.

Doane struck first with a basket from Glavine McDonald but the Red Raiders countered with seven straight points for a 7-2 lead after two minutes of action. Doane regained the lead with a 10-3 run to take a 12-10 with 15:14 to play in the half. Northwestern went back in front by four points only to see a 5-0 Tiger run as Doane led 21-20 with 11:24 to go. The teams exchanged the lead one more time before a 3-point basket for Northwestern with 10:09 to play in the half gave NWC the lead for good. The Red Raiders pushed the lead to eight points and would lead by six, 40-34, at the half.

Northwestern started the second half with a 12-0 run to push their lead to 18 points. The Red Raiders would push the lead to 22 points on two occasions, at 11:24 and 5:43. Trailing 74-52, the Tigers went on a 12-4 run to pull within 14 points with 2:53 to play. NWC closed the game with a 10-0 run to eventually pick up their largest lead of the game with the final difference.

The Tigers received 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting with five assists from Brady Timm. Caleb Hrabik added 13 points and six rebounds while McDonald posted 10 points. Jack Wilson led the team with two steals.

Doane shot 42-percent for the game (22-of-53), making 9-of-25 from behind the arc, and 11-of-13 at the free throw line. Northwestern shot 64-percent from the floor (32-of-50), making 9-of-19 from 3-point range, and 15-of-21 at the free throw line. 

Jesse Van Kalsbeek led the Red Raiders with 23 points and 16 rebounds. Jalen Langsy added 19 points and Alex Van Kalsbeek posted 18 points.

The Tigers will reverse travel directions as they now head to Arizona for a pair of games. First up for the team will be Nelson University (AZ) on Wednesday, December 18, at 7 PM local time (8 PM in Crete).
