Lazaridis, Men's Golf Win Individual and Team Titles in Kansas
Doane Men's Golf posted the program's second best round in school history on Saturday and followed with the low round of the day again on Sunday to win the 36-hole Bethel Invitational. The tournament was played at the Hesston Golf Park and Sand Creek Station golf courses in Kansas.
On Saturday, the Tigers varsity team posted a final score of 276 to take a three-stroke lead after Day 1. When the teams returned to action on Sunday, the Tigers fired a 301 to finish with a 577 total score and a 13-stroke victory.
Achilleas Lazaridis brought home medalist honors with an even-par, 143 (69-74). Andrew Paquette tied for second with a one-over par, 144 (69-75). Blake Skoumal shot a 145 (70-75) as did Blake Andersen (69-77) to tie for sixth. Julius Rauter tied for ninth with a 147 (70-77).
The Doane "B" team also played well as they finished fourth overall with a 597 (286-311). Garrett Dalton posted a 148 (71-77) and tied for 11th with teammate Ryan Weiss who also shot a 148 (72-76). Josh Spomer tied for 16th with a 149 (70-79). Karsten Kern finished in a tie for 27th with a 152 (73-79) and Thomas Benninghoff was tied for 39th with a 158 (78-80).
Next up for the Tigers will be the Tiger/Bulldog Cup after a near two-week break. Doane and Concordia will play their annual match play event on April 15 in York, Neb.
