Men's Soccer Edged in GPAC Opener

Doane Men's Soccer battled under the Memorial Stadium lights on Wednesday evening, hosting Mount Marty in the GPAC opener. All of the scoring came in a five-minute span as the Lancers knocked off the Tigers, 2-1.

After a scoreless first half, the teams remained scoreless until the 79' when Jonathan Castro picked up a punt about 40 yards from the goal and fired a shot back that found an open net for a 1-0 lead. Castro set up the next goal in the 82' as his shot attempt was saved but deflected to Miguel Ponce who tapped the ball into the goal for a 2-0 lead.

Doane answered in the 83' as an attempted clearance by Mount Marty went right to Cesar Gonzalez (JR/Puerto Quito, Ecuador) and he rolled the ball under the Lancer goalkeeper to pull Doane within one.

Mount Marty outshot the Tigers, 19-14, with shots on-goal standing at 11-8.

Doane will be back at home on Thursday, September 22, at 7:15 PM when they play host to Presentation.
