Doane Men's Soccer put up a valiant fight against one of the top teams in the GPAC but would ultimately fall at Northwestern, 5-3. The Tigers close the year at 2-14-2 overall and 2-7-2 in GPAC play.
Northwestern struck in the 9' of the game on a goal by Ryan Del Monaco. Doane came back in the 18' as Cesar Gonzalez (JR/Puerto Quito, Ecuador) played a ball to Roberto Filpo (SR/Mineola, N.Y.) who one-touched the ball to the middle of the field where Reynaldo Villafuerte (SR/Mexico City, Mexico) fired a shot into the goal to tie the game.
Del Monaco scored moments later in the 19' to give the Red Raiders the lead back. Doane tied the game late in the first half, 2-2, as Jesus Maganda (SR/Schuyler, Neb.) sent a free kick into the goal box where Grayson Meyer (JR/Lincoln, Neb.) headed the ball in.
In the second half, Northwestern regained the lead in the 48' on a goal by Stan van de Beld. They added to the lead in the 81' on a Mason McGill goal for a 4-2 lead. Doane cut the deficit in half in the 88' as Villafuerte scored for the second time in the game with an assist to Jarryd Stone (SR/Ballito, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa). Doane was called for a foul in the goal box in the 89' which led to a penalty kick goal from Tim Kaltenberger for the final score.
