Jelicich Scores Equalizer in Final Five Minutes to Snag GPAC Tie

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Doane men's soccer battled to a 2-2 draw on the road Saturday afternoon against Briar Cliff at Faber Field, powered by a pair of goals from Mateo Jelicich.

The Tigers struck first in the 6th minute when Jelicich buried the opening goal, giving Doane early momentum. The Chargers responded in the 33rd minute with an equalizer from Alejandro Illan on a penalty kick, and the match went to halftime tied 1-1.

Briar Cliff capitalized shortly after the restart, as Pablo Gonzalez scored in the 48th minute off a setup from David Utsi-Grinde to give the hosts a 2-1 edge. The Tigers stayed resilient, and with less than five minutes to play, Jelicich delivered again. Off an assist from Pablo Rodriguez, he netted the tying goal in the 85th minute to secure the result.

Doane managed six total shots, placing four on frame, while Briar Cliff recorded 16 shots, seven on target. Goalkeeper Curtis Oberg kept the Tigers within reach, collecting four saves—including three in the first half—to withstand Briar Cliff's attacking pressure. His lone save in the second half came in the final three minutes of the game to maintain the tie.

Doane's back line, anchored by Luis Aragon and Eduardo Morschel, held firm late as the Tigers fended off multiple Charger corners.

With the result, Doane moves to 1-5-1 overall and 0-0-1 in GPAC play, while Briar Cliff sits at 3-3-1 and 0-0-1. The Tigers return home Wednesday to face Hastings in their next conference matchup.

Final Score: Doane 2, Briar Cliff 2
