Top Region Players Battle in Men's Tennis Action

Doane Men's Tennis met up with McPherson (Kan.) on Sunday afternoon in Fremont. The final score, 7-0 in favor of the Bulldogs, was not an indicator for how close the match was. The match was contested indoors at the Fremont YMCA.

McPherson swept the doubles matches, though the difference was a single break of service in each match. The Bulldogs won 7-5 at No. 1 and 6-4 at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

In singles action, an NAIA Top 50 battle took place between Jorge Chevez and Michael Beltran. Beltran, ranked No. 50, edged out Chevez, ranked No. 30, at No. 1 singles, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 1-0 (10-8). In the region, Chevez is ranked No. 2 and Beltran is No. 5.

At No. 2 singles, Jose Purizaca lost a tough battle against Daniel Marcano, ranked No. 13 in the region. Marcano won 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5). The Bulldogs won the final four singles matches in straight sets.

Next up for the Tigers will be a March 6 meeting against NCAA Division II William Jewell in Liberty, Missouri.
