Men's Tennis Hits Four States Over Spring Break
Doane Men's Tennis toured the midwest for Spring Break as they traveled to Kansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Illinois for matches prior to conference play beginning.
Following their match at Kansas Wesleyan, the Tigers dropped a 5-2 decision to Bethel (Kan.). Next up was NCAA Division I Austin Peay, a match the Tigers fell in, 7-0. Doane bounced back with a 7-0 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan but dropped their final match to No. 20 Oakland City, 6-1.
Despite the final score, the Bethel match featured several close matches. Picking up wins for the Tigers were Federico Infante and Esteban Gutierrez. Infante won 6-4, 7-5, at 3-singles while Gutierrez won 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) at 4-singles.
Against Kentucky Wesleyan, Jose Purizaca and Gutierrez picked up shutout victories at 2-singles and 4-singles, respectively. They also teamed up for a 6-0 win at 2-doubles.
Gutierrez added another win against Oakland City as he posted a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-7) win at 4-singles for the team's only point.
The Tigers are set to open conference play on Sunday, March 19, with a trip to Yankton, S.D., to take on Mount Marty.
