Chevez Named GPAC Men's Tennis Player of the Year
Doane Men's Tennis had six players recognized on the 2023 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) All-Conference list this week. Six players were honored in singles action with four of the players honored in doubles play as well.
Jorge Chevez capped off a stellar career for the Tigers with a perfect record during the GPAC regular season and was named the GPAC Men's Tennis Player of the Year. He went 6-0 at 1-singles and finished the year with a 13-10 overall record. Joining Chevez on the First Team All-Conference list were Esteban Gutierrez at 4-singles and Donat Beke at 6-singles. Gutierrez was also 6-0 in GPAC play and went 15-7 overall while Beke was 3-3 in GPAC action and 6-15 overall.
Receiving honorable mention honors were Jose Purizaca at 2-singles, Federico Infante at 3-singles, and Diego Infante at 5-singles. Purizaca was 8-15 on the year and 3-3 in GPAC action. Federico Infante went 12-11 overall and 4-2 in GPAC play. Diego Infante posted a 10-12 record while going 5-1 in GPAC action.
In doubles play, Chevez teamed with Federico Infante to receive First Team honors at 1-doubles while Purizaca and Gutierrez received First Team honors at 2-doubles. Chevez and Infante went 5-1 in GPAC play with an 8-2 overall record. Purizaca and Gutierrez posted a 5-1 GPAC mark with an 8-10 overall record.
The Tigers finished the year with a 10-13 overall record and placed second in the conference with a 5-1 record.
