Men's Tennis Downs Bethany in Home Opener
Men's Tennis hosted Bethany (Kan.) in the home opener on Wednesday afternoon in Crete. The Tigers posted a 6-1 victory over the Swedes.
In singles action, Doane had a couple of milestone victories. At 1-singles, Esteban Gutierrez won 6-0, 2-6, 1-0 (10-4) to pick up his 42nd career singles win to move into 2nd on the program's wins list since the restart of the program in the 1990s. Federico Infante picked up a 6-4, 6-3, win at 3-singles to pick up his 39th career singles win to move into 4th.
In other singles action, Diego Infante won 6-2, 7-6 (7-2), at 4-singles and Elliot Dassel won 6-0, 6-0 at 5-singles. Julio Avila won 6-0, 6-0, at 6-singles.
In doubles action, the Tigers swept the three matches. The Infante brothers won 6-3 at 1-doubles while Gutierrez and Purizaca won 6-1 at 2-doubles. Andre Hartman teamed with Dassel to win at 3-doubles, 6-1.
Next up for the Tigers will be a match with Nebraska Wesleyan on April 2 at 4 PM in Crete. Due to the impending weather, the schedule has featured some changes and created a near-two week span without a match for Doane.
