Men's Tennis Opens Season at Bethany Invite

Men's Tennis opened the year at the Bethany Invite. Singles action was contested on Saturday with doubles play taking place on Friday.

In doubles play on day one, Jose Purizaca and Diego Infante dropped their opening match in the "A" Draw to a duo from Tabor, 8-3. They dropped their second match to a team from Sterling due to withdrawing.

Andre Hartman and Elliot Dassel teamed up in the "B" Draw, dropping their first match to a squad from Kansas Wesleyan, 8-5. They rebounded for an 8-6 win over a team from Tabor. In the fifth place match, they lost to another team from Kansas Wesleyan, 8-6.

Doane fielded two teams in the "C" Draw. Julio Avila and Tanner Adams teamed up to win their first match, 8-4 over a team from Tabor. In the semifinals, they defeated a team from Sterling, 8-6. In the finals, they met another team from Sterling and dropped the match, 8-2.

Christian Jensen and Theodore Jones teamed up, dropping their first match to the bracket champion from Sterling, 8-0. They were downed in the first consolation match, 8-3, by a team from Bethany. In the seventh place match, they were defeated by a Kansas Wesleyan duo, 8-3.

Purizaca opened the singles "A" Draw with an 8-2 win over Jacob Phelps of Kansas Wesleyan. He followed with an 8-4 win over Pedro Felipoff of Sterling. In the championship match, he defeated Francisco Bravo of Bethany, 8-7 (7-3).

Infante dropped his first match to Bravo, 8-0. He lost 8-5 in the consolation semifinals to Raul Davalos of Kansas Wesleyan. He took seventh place with a withdraw win over Phelps.

Hartman competed in the "B" Draw. He dropped his opening match, 8-0, to Adam Hanson of Kansas Wesleyan. In his second match, he lost to Jake Goertzen of Tabor.

In the "C" Draw, Dassel won his opening match, 8-1, over Paulo Cattani Martini of Kansas Wesleyan. He lost 8-7 (7-3) in the semifinals to Louis Boisdenghien of Sterling. In the third place match, he lost 8-2 to Luke Craft of Kansas Wesleyan.

Avila played in the "D" Draw and won his opening match over Gavin Chavez of Kansas Wesleyan, 8-4. In the semifinals, he lost 8-2 to Nicholas Sprenger of Sterling. Daniel Lozano of Bethany won the third place match, 8-6.

Tanner Adams was in the "E" Draw and dropped his first match to Marko Djukic of Sterling, 8-1. He won his next two matches, defeating Collin Branam of Tabor, 8-3, and Nathan Coria of Tabor, 8-3, to take fifth place.

In the "F" Draw, Jensen won his opening match, 8-0, over Gannon Mosher of Bethany. He dropped his semifinal match, 8-1, to Robin Baransi of Sterling. In the third place match, Jensen defeated Austin Harden of Kansas Wesleyan, 8-2.

Jones also played in the "F" draw. He dropped his first match to Harden, 8-4. He lost his second match, 8-0, to Zach Daley of Kansas Wesleyan.

Doane will start dual play on September 17 with a home match against Nebraska Wesleyan.
