Men's Tennis Drops First Dual of Season to Creighton

OMAHA, Neb. – The Doane men's tennis team battled through several close sets but ultimately dropped a 7–0 decision to Creighton on Saturday afternoon.

The Bluejays claimed the doubles point after securing wins in all three pairings. At No. 1 doubles, Mats Vervloet and Diego Infante challenged the Creighton duo of Rocky McKenzie and Yuma Daijima before falling 6–4. Elliot Dassel and Jaime Asiain Banzo dropped their No. 2 match 6–2, while Christian Jensen and Miles Mollring came up short 6–1 at the No. 3 spot.

In singles action, Vervloet produced one of Doane's most competitive efforts, taking four games in the opening set before falling 6–4, 6–3 to McKenzie at No. 1 singles. Asiain Banzo also pushed several games deep in a 6–1, 6–2 loss to Jack McMahon on court 3. Andre Hartman and Dassel each battled through early games before Creighton pulled away in straight sets.

Creighton swept all six singles matches to clinch the team victory, improving their overall mark to 2-0 while the Tigers fall to 0-1.

Doane returns to action in the spring, looking to build on the experience gained against a solid NCAA Division I opponent.
