Men's Tennis Drops Home Opener

CRETE, Neb. — The Doane University men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Bethany College (Kan.) on Wednesday in nonconference action.

Bethany secured the early advantage by sweeping all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead before adding four singles victories to clinch the dual. Doane earned its two team points with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

At No. 5 singles, Andre Hartman battled back after splitting the first two sets to defeat Dylan Gwilt in a match tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-0, 10-5. Miles Mollring added a straight-set victory at No. 6, defeating Pedro Melo, 6-4, 6-2.

Several other matches were tightly contested for the Tigers. At No. 1 singles, Mats Vervloet pushed Francisco Bravo to a third-set tiebreaker before falling 7-6, 2-6, 11-9, while Diego Infante also forced a deciding tiebreak at No. 2 before dropping a 4-6, 6-2, 10-3 decision.

Jaime Asiain Banzo (No. 3) and Elliot Dassel (No. 4) were defeated in straight sets as Bethany secured the remaining singles points.
