Men's Tennis Opens Spring Break Against Bethel (TN)

MOBILE, Ala. — The Doane University men's tennis team faced a tough test on Sunday afternoon, falling to Bethel (Tenn.) 7-0 in a nonconference matchup played in Mobile, Alabama.

Bethel secured the early advantage by sweeping all three doubles matches to take the doubles point.

At No. 1 doubles, Mats Vervloet and Jaime Asiain Banzo battled Lucca Nesi and Gabriel Perini but came up short, 6-4. The Tigers were edged in a tight contest at No. 2 doubles where Diego Infante and Elliot Dassel pushed Andrej Jovanovic and Gustavo Santos before falling 7-6 (7-3). Bethel completed the doubles sweep at No. 3 with Kenzo Nishioka and Guilherme Nomura defeating Andre Hartman and Miles Mollring, 6-2.

In singles play, Bethel maintained control across the lineup to secure the team victory.

At No. 1 singles, Jovanovic defeated Vervloet 6-4, 6-4. Infante dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Guillermo Gomez Rodriguez at the No. 2 position, while Perini earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Asiain Banzo at No. 3.

Nishioka topped Dassel 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. Nesi defeated Hartman 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5, and Marc Altur completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Mollring at No. 6.
