Men's Tennis Drops Opener in Mobile Double-Dip

MOBILE, Ala. – The Doane University men's tennis team opened a two-match set against the University of Mobile on Monday afternoon, falling 6-1 in the first match of the day.

The Tigers picked up their lone point in singles play after Mobile secured the doubles point by winning two of the three matches.

Mobile took an early advantage by claiming victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The duo of Callum Dickson and Davi Malvini Fernandes defeated Doane's Mats Vervloet and Jaime Asiain Banzo, 6-2, at the top spot, while Youssef Fazazi and Gabriel Esmanhotto earned a 6-3 win over Andre Hartman and Miles Mollring at No. 3.

Doane responded with a victory at No. 2 doubles as Diego Infante and Elliot Dassel posted a 7-5 win over Goodwin Holley and Andres Riveros-Tejada, but Mobile had already secured the doubles point.

In singles competition, the Rams controlled most of the lineup, winning five of the six matches. Mobile claimed straight-set wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 singles.

The Tigers' lone victory came at No. 3 singles where Jaime Asiain Banzo delivered a strong performance, defeating Gabriel Esmanhotto 6-3, 6-2.

Miles Mollring forced the most competitive match of the day for Doane at No. 6 singles. After dropping the first set 6-0, Mollring rallied to win the second set 6-4 before falling in a tight third-set tiebreaker to Goodwin Holley.
