Rivalry Renewed as Men's Tennis Downs Wesleyan

CRETE, Neb. – The Doane University men's tennis team delivered a dominant performance on its home courts Thursday evening, defeating Nebraska Wesleyan, 6-1, in dual action.

Doane overcame an early deficit after doubles play by sweeping all six singles matches to secure the victory.

Nebraska Wesleyan claimed the doubles point, taking two of three matches. The Prairie Wolves earned wins at #1 and #3 doubles, while Doane's duo of Andre Hartman and Jaime Asiain Banzo provided the Tigers' lone doubles victory with a 7-5 decision at the #2 spot.

Trailing 1-0, Doane responded emphatically in singles competition, winning all six flights in convincing fashion.

At the top of the lineup, Mats Vervloet set the tone with a commanding 6-2, 6-0 win at #1 singles. Diego Infante followed with a resilient performance at #2 singles, bouncing back after dropping the first set to win in a match tiebreak, 2-6, 6-1, 10-8.

Jaime Asiain Banzo added a straight-set victory at #3 singles, 6-1, 6-4, before Elliot Dassel continued the momentum with a 6-4, 6-0 win at #4.

The Tigers sealed the team victory in dramatic fashion at the back end of the lineup. Andre Hartman rallied at #5 singles, recovering from a first-set loss to claim a 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 win. Miles Mollring closed out the sweep with a thrilling comeback at #6 singles, edging Sam Rademacher in a tightly contested match tiebreak, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 12-10.
