Vervloet Named ITA Central Region Rookie of the Year

CRETE, Neb. – Doane freshman Mats Vervloet has been recognized as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Rookie of the Year following an outstanding debut season with the Tiger men's tennis program.

The ITA Rookie of the Year award honors a first-year student-athlete who has made significant contributions to their team through leadership, sportsmanship, and performance throughout the season.

Vervloet quickly established himself as one of the top players in the region during his first collegiate campaign. Competing primarily at the No. 1 singles position, he compiled a 15-12 overall record across tournament and dual-match competition while consistently facing the strongest opponents on Doane's schedule.

His performance earned First Team All-GPAC honors in singles, recognizing him as one of the conference's top players. Vervloet also finished the season ranked No. 68 nationally in the final ITA men's singles rankings, further cementing his place among the NAIA's premier competitors.

Throughout the season, Vervloet demonstrated the qualities associated with the Rookie of the Year honor, providing leadership on and off the court while representing Doane with outstanding sportsmanship. His ability to compete at a high level against nationally recognized competition helped elevate the Tigers throughout the 2025-26 campaign.

Vervloet becomes the latest Tiger men's tennis student-athlete to earn regional recognition from the ITA and adds another accolade to a freshman season that positioned him among the top players in both the GPAC and the Central Region.

The native of Belgium will enter his sophomore season as one of the conference's top returning players after earning all-conference honors and finishing the year ranked nationally.
