Campbell Hits National Qualifying Mark in Crete
Doane Track and Field's men's squad hosted the Scott Nisely Memorial Classic on Saturday in Crete. The Tigers posted eight event wins, two NAIA automatic qualifying marks, and two NAIA provisional qualifying marks.
In the field events, Matthew Campbell won the weight throw with a mark of 20.11m (65-11.75), the top mark this year in the NAIA and an automatic qualifying mark. By hitting the automatic qualifying mark, he will be defending his national title in March. Luke Partridge met the automatic qualifying standard for the third time this year, hitting a throw of 17.61m (57-09.50) and Trey Dickey met the NAIA provisional standard with a toss of 16.52m (54-02.50). Campbell won the shot put with a throw of 15.44m (50-08.00), meeting the provisional qualifying standard.
Vince Lauenroth won the triple jump with a leap of 13.99m (45-10.75). Luke Davis placed third in the long jump with a mark of 6.72m (22-00.75). In the high jump, Carter Reckling placed fourth with a height of 1.96m (6-05.00). Mike Pulliam won the pole vault with a clearance of 4.35m (14-03.25).
On the track, Chris Vincent led the Tigers with a 4th place finish in a time of 7.06 seconds. Jack Krejci won the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.55 seconds. Austin Drake claimed the 200m crown with a time of 22.51. In the 400m dash, Matthew Case was sixth with a time of 53.16.
Kingdon Hawes won the 600m run with a time of 1:23.73 while Will Wenz placed fourth in the 800m run with a time of 2:03.61. Kalen Dockweiler paced the Tigers in the 1000m with a time of 2:33.67 to place second. Thomas Oliver finished sixth in the mile run with a time of 4:25.04. Jacob Tadlock finished 12th with a time of 9:27.02 in the 3000m run which featured 46 runners.
The meet concluded with the men's 4x400m relay. The Doane "A" team of Drake, Joaquin Gutierrez, Andrew Mahoney, and Hawes ran a time of 3:26.09 to record the win. Doane had four more teams put together for the race and three of them finished ahead of the next best "A" team.
Next up for the Tigers will be the Prairie Wolf Invitational on Friday, January 20, and/or the Polar Dog Invite on Saturday, January 21. Doane athletes will compete at both meets, however at the time of this release, it had not been determined which meet each individual athlete will compete at.
