Men's Track and Field Places Second at GPAC

Doane Men's Track and Field posted a Second Place finish at the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Championships on Saturday. The Tigers finished with 194 points, finishing 10.5 points behind Dordt.

Athletes placing in the Top 8 of their individual event and relay teams placing in the Top 3 of the relay race are named All-GPAC for 2023. Finishes in the Top 8, including ties, earns points towards the team total.

In the 60m dash, JaDae Moore placed second with a time of 6.85, meeting the NAIA A standard. Luke Davis placed fourth with a time of 6.95. Emmett Black finished with a time of 7.02 (7.011) to place fifth and Chris Vincent ran a time of 7.02 (7.020) to place sixth. 

In the 200m, Moore ran a time of 22.27 to meet the NAIA B standard as he placed second. Austin Drake was third with a time of 22.29, meeting the NAIA B standard. Zach Turner placed fifth with a time of 22.36, also meeting the NAIA B standard. In the 60m hurdles, Turner won with a time of 7.97 seconds. He broke the GPAC record, becoming the first in conference history to run a sub-8 second time in the conference meet.

Turner added a runner-up finish in the 400m with a NAIA A standard time of 49.18. Joaquin Gutierrez placed sixth with a time of 50.07. Caleb Mulder ran a time of 51.26 to place eighth. In the 600m, Kingdon Hawes finished third with a time of 1:23.40. Jordan Tasler placed sixth with a time of 1:24.00.

Duncan Blankenship posted a fifth place finish in the 800m run, finishing in a time of 1:58.35. Four Tigers placed in the 1000m run, led by Thomas Oliver with a time of 2:36.33 to place fourth. Kalen Dockweiler finished fifth with a time of 2:36.44 and Michael Grigsby was sixth with a time of 2:36.47. Ryan Evans ran a time of 2:38.90 to finish eighth.

In the mile run, Dockweiler finished with a time of 4:16.58 to meet the NAIA A standard as he placed sixth. Oliver was seventh with a time of 4:19.88, hitting an NAIA B standard. The duo also placed in the 3000m run. Dockweiler finished with a time of 8:48.22 to place sixth. Oliver was seventh with a time of 8:51.81.

In the 4x400m relay, the Tigers placed third with a time of 3:22.36, meeting the NAIA B standard. Running for the team was Drake, Mulder, Andrew Mahoney, and Gutierrez. The 4x800m relay team also finished in third place, posting a time of 8:13.57. Team members included Will Wenz, Trace Ebert, Jordan Kwiatkowski, and Evans.

Vince Lauenroth placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 6.82m (22-04.50). Davis placed sixth with a mark of 6.79m (22-03.50). Nolan Mayer finished in eighth place with a leap of 6.69m (21-11.50). Lauenroth won the triple jump with an NAIA A standard mark of 14.38m (47-02.25). Trevor Malone finished in fourth place with a jump of 13.82m (45-04.25) and Cordale Moxey was fifth with a mark of 13.70m (44-11.50).

The high jump featured two Tigers earning All-GPAC honors. Carter Reckling tied for third with a mark of 1.96m (6-05.00) and Dylan Starr placed seventh with a clearance of 1.91m (6-03.25). Mike Pulliam hit a height of 4.85m (15-11.00) to place third in the pole vault. His mark meets the NAIA A standard, putting him sixth nationally. Branson McDonald added a seventh place finish with a mark of 4.35m (14-03.25).

Matthew Campbell won the weight throw with a mark of 20.52m (67-04.00), the top mark in the NAIA. Luke Partridge placed fourth with a mark of 17.80m (58-04.75). Trey Dickey finished with a mark of 17.26m (56-07.50) to place fifth and Jaedon Lothrop was sixth with a mark of 17.24m (56-06.75). All four marks met the NAIA A standard. Andrew Schmitz hit an NAIA B standard mark with a throw of 16.44m (53-11.25) as he finished 10th.

In the shot put, Campbell was third with a mark of 15.84m (51-11.75), meeting the NAIA A standard. Zac Stieb hit a throw of 15.14m (49-08.25) to finish fifth. Dickey placed sixth with a mark of 14.74m (48-04.50). Schmitz placed seventh with a throw of 14.72m (48-03.50).

Over Friday and Saturday, the heptathlon was contested. Jack Krejci placed fourth with a score of 4,513 points. Devin Jepson finished eighth with a score of 4,187 points.

Next up for the Tigers will be the NAIA Championships in Brookings, S.D., on March 2-4.
