Men's Track Wins GPAC Crown; Women Place 3rd
Doane Track and Field competed in the GPAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday in Yankton, S.D. Mount Marty College served as the host this year with the meet held at Yankton High School. The Tiger men posted a decisive victory with 192 points to collect their fifth straight outdoor conference championship. The women finished with 142.50 points and a third place finish in the meet.
The Tiger men had 37 All-GPAC performances, which came from individual Top 8 finishes and relay Top 3 finishes. Tiger athletes also collected six First Place finishes, including three from Levi Sudbeck (JR/Hadar, Neb.). The women had 41 All-GPAC performances in the meet. Jaysa Hoins (SR/Superior, Neb.) posted two First Place finishes for the Tiger women.
On the men's side, the Tigers had three NAIA "A" standard qualifying marks hit along with five "B" standard marks. Logan Hammond (SO/Ogallala, Neb.) met the "A" standard on the track in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.56 to win the race. Turner Hill (SR/Crete, Neb.) had a "B" mark of 54.20 in the race. In the 110m hurdles, Sudbeck met the "B" standard with a time of 14.88 in a victory.
Two relay teams met the "B" standard. The 4x100 relay of Xavier Bridges (SR/Fairmont, Neb.), Michael Tross (SR/Saint Kitts), Peyton Harsin (JR/Syracuse, Neb.), and Austin Drake (FR/Allen, Tex.) ran a time of 41.73. Hammond, Harsin, Hill, and Alan Varela (SR/Oxford, Neb.) teamed up in the 4x400m relay to post a time of 3:16.82.
Sudbeck won the pole vault with an "A" standard mark of 15-11.00. Zach Muff (FR/Crete, Neb.) also met the "A" standard with a height of 15-07.00. Bridges met the "B" standard in the long jump with a mark of 23-06.75.
In addition to winning the 110m hurdles and the pole vault, Sudbeck also won the decathlon with 6,235 points. Alec Wick (SO/Blair, Neb.) won the 10,000m run with a time of 32:13.22 and Tanner Sand (SO/Wilber, Neb.) won the triple jump with a mark of 45-08.50 to join Hammond and Sudbeck as event winners.
The women posted four "A" standard marks and three "B" standard marks. Hoins hit the "A" mark in the triple jump with a leap of 39-03.25. Her second victory came in the long jump with a mark of 17-11.00.
Kate Grint (JR/Ord, Neb.) met the "A" standard in two events. She hit a throw of 48-11.00 in the shot put and 172-08 in the hammer throw. In the pole vault, Alyssa Downs (SO/Columbus, Neb.) met the "B" standard with a height of 11-05.75. Alexis Dale (JR/Ravenna, Neb.) cleared 5-04.50 in the high jump to meet the "B" standard.
Two relay teams met NAIA standard marks. The 4x800m relay team of Haydyn Weise (SO/Jansen, Neb.), Jacinda Davis (SO/Plattsmouth, Neb.), Jaci Parriott, and Delaney Lemkau (SR/Sutton, Neb.) ran a time of 9:18.22 to automatically qualify for nationals. In the 4x400m relay, the team of Annika Pingel (FR/Pella, Iowa), Logan Hayek (SO/Wilber, Neb.), Lemkau, and MacKenzie Brandl (SO/Stanton, Neb.) met the provisional standard with a time of 3:56.83.
