Dockweiler Breaks Steeplechase Record, Men Finish 23rd at Nationals

Doane Men's Track and Field placed 23rd at the NAIA National Championships this week in Marion, Indiana. The meet was contested over three days with the meet wrapping up on Friday as the Tigers finished with 15 team points.

The Tigers had four NAIA All-Americans in the meet, posting one in the first completed event of the meet and one in the final event with the other two coming in a single event.

Luke Partridge was the first Tiger to earn honors for the outdoor season as he placed eighth in the hammer throw. He hit a throw of 56.99m (187-00).

In the 3000m steeplechase, Kalen Dockweiler and Thomas Oliver qualified for the finals with their performances on Wednesday. In Friday's championship race, Dockweiler broke his school record with a time of 9:04.98. He placed second as the race came down to the final couple of meters with the top three finishers all within one second of each other. Oliver also ran a personal best time as he finished fifth in a time of 9:13.41, the second-fastest time in program history.

The final race of the meet was the 4x400m relay team. The Tigers squad of Kingdon Hawes, Austin Drake, Caleb Mulder, and Joaquin Gutierrez were the ninth, and last team, to qualify for the finals. On Friday, the team put together their best time of the season and ran the seventh-fastest time in program history as they were clocked in 3:13.00.

Also on the track, the 4x100m relay team placed 14th on Wednesday with a time of 40.83. Running for the Tigers were JaDae Moore, Chris Vincent, Andrew Mahoney, and Drake.

Mike Pulliam tied for 17th with a height of 4.60m (15-01.00) in the pole vault. Mason Krause placed 14th in the javelin with a throw of 57.75m (189-06).

Andrew Schmitz placed ninth in the hammer throw with a mark of 54.94m (180-03). In the shot put, he placed 26th with a throw of 14.40m (47-03.00).
