Men's Track and Field Competes in Two Twilight Meets
Men's Track and Field competed in a pair of twilight meets on Friday, taking part in the University of South Dakota (USD) Twilight and the Concordia Twilight.
In Vermillion, S.D., Kyler Nichols won the triple jump with a mark of 14.39m (47-02.50). Michael Willey finished sixth in the long jump with a mark of 6.72m (22-00.75).
In Seward, Neb., Devon Jackson placed 14th in the 100m with a time of 11.07. Joaquin Gutierrez placed 10th in the 400m with a time of 48.33. Emmanuel Yego finished in 16th place in the 800m after posting a time of 1:53.69.
Zach Turner won the 110m hurdles with a NAIA-leading time of 13.52, just 0.03 off his wind-aided school record time. In the 3000m steeplechase, Logan Menke finished fifth with a time of 11:37.48.
In the high jump, Cooper Girmus cleared 1.93m (6-04.00) to place fourth. Drew Garrison was fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.31m (14-01.75).
Brian Cech placed 14th in the long jump with a mark of 6.17m (20-03.00) and seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 13.60m (44-07.50). In the shot put, Andrew Schmitz finished third with a throw of 16.15m (53-00.00), matching his personal best mark. Schmitz hit a personal best in the hammer throw as he took second with a mark of 60.37m (198-01).
Christopher Brown placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 50.67m (166-03). Mason Crumbliss posted a throw of 50.21m (164-09) in the javelin, placing seventh.
Brown is scheduled to be joined by Andrew Englund and Jaden Vollenweider at the Loper Twilight on Saturday, May 10, in Kearney.
